Special Services Department

Union Beach school district provides a comprehensive continuum of educational programs for students with disabilities. Like all public schools in the state, we closely adhere to the New Jersey Administrative Code for special education.

When a student is having difficulties in class, the student’s parents should first be contacted by their child’s teacher. If concerns continue, the teacher will then refer the student to the Intervention and Referral Services Committee (I&RS). Interventions to help the student in the general education classroom will be implemented 6A:14-3.3(b). If difficulties continue, a referral to the Child Study Team will be made by the teacher or the I&RS Committee. A parent may make a direct referral, but should have data to support such a request for consideration by the Child Study Team.

We will be happy to screen your 2.5 -3 year old child. Please call with any questions you may have or to make an appointment.

Our door is always open, and we would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
