This assignment is on the Constitution that took the place of the Articles of Confederation. By 1787 The FOUNDERS, [the men who founded the country by signing the Declaration of Independence are called FOUNDERS] called for a Constitutional Convention to change the Articles to make a more perfect union. They soon decided that a whole new Constitution had to be created. They started to create and frame, [that is why we call the men who wrote the Constitution FRAMERS], a new type of government that had not been tried since the Roman Republic. They were creating a type of government, called a REPUBLIC, that had not been used for over a thousand years. A republic is a state in which the supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and must have an ELECTED, [ BY THE PEOPLE ] president or leader rather than a monarch.[KING or QUEEN]. Every government in Europe and Asia at that time, and for a thousand years before, was a type of Monarchy run by a King or Queen determined by bloodlines. No other countries thought it could work! That is why we call our Constitution..."The Great Experiment"

Federalism is the system of government where there is shared power between the central/federal government and the states. Our constitution divides the power, but gives no rule for the amount of power to be given to each. People who believe the federal government should have more power we call FEDERALISTS..people who want the central government to have less power than the states are called ANTI-FEDERALISTS..
Here is another definition: "Federalism is a political philosophy in which a group of people are bound together, with a governing head. In federalism, the authority is divided between the head (for example the central government of a country) and the political units governed by it (for example the states or provinces of the country)".

The Intolerable Acts were punishing laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party. The laws were meant to pay back the Massachusetts colonists for their defiance in the Tea Party protest in reaction to changes in taxation by the British to the detriment of colonial goods.Parliament replied to the "Boston Tea Party" with the five Coercive [ look that word up if you don't know its meaning] Acts of 1774. The colonists dubbed them the "Intolerable Acts." They were an important factor contributing to the American Revolution. Please list and explain what each of the five acts were and why they made colonists VERY mad.
