Transportation Documents for 2022-2023 School Year

WHO SHOULD I CONTACT TO REPORT PROBLEMS MY CHILD IS HAVING WITH ANOTHER STUDENT AT THE BUS STOP AND/OR ON THE BUS?

Please contact the student’s school administration to report problems so they may be properly addressed.  For parents of students transported out of district, please contact your student’s case manager directly with any transportation concerns.

HOW DO I REPORT A LOST CELL PHONE / BACKPACK / IPOD, ETC. THAT I BELIEVE WAS LEFT ON THE BUS?

All bus drivers check their buses at the end of each route and have been directed to keep any found items with them in the front of the bus. If an item was left on the bus, students should immediately ask their bus driver if it was found.

After a reasonable amount of time and no one has claimed the item, it will be held at the bus depot. Please contact your bus contractor to inquire about a lost item. Please have township, school and bus name ready.

Email the Transportation office at [email protected] if you need further assistance.

CAN MY CHILD LOSE HIS/HER BUS RIDING PRIVILEGES?

Yes.  Riding a school bus is a privilege and not a right.  Each local school district has adopted rules of conduct for waiting at the bus stop and for riding the school bus.  If your child does not follow the rules, your child could lose his/her riding privileges for a period of time or the entire school year.  Please refer to your safety rules that were included with your bus pass.

SHOULD I CALL SOMEONE IF MY STUDENT DOESN’T NEED TO BE PICKED UP TODAY?

If your student rides a bus going to Keyport High School, Red Bank Regional High School, non public schools, or vocational schools, no phone call is necessary as each will be going by each assigned stop along that route. If your student has an IEP and rides a bus, the individual stops that these buses make are spread out over significant distances throughout the township. It is very helpful to the driver if they are aware that they do not have to make a particular stop that day, so we ask that you notify the Transportation office at [email protected].

MY CHILD ATTENDS AN OUT-OF-DISTRICT SCHOOL, WITH TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED BY UNION BEACH .  IF UNION BEACH CLOSES DUE TO WEATHER, BUT MY CHILD’S SCHOOL REMAINS OPEN, WILL TRANSPORTATION BE PROVIDED?

No. The decision to close school is made for the safety of all students who live within the boundary of the Union Beach School District. Once the decision is made to close school, transportation will be cancelled for students attending school at Union Beach School District and for students transported by Union Beach to any private, non-public, or vocational school outside of Union Beach.

WHY WAS I ASKED TO JOIN A REMIND GROUP?

Union Beach Board of Education is dedicated to providing as many lines of communication as possible for parents and students.  By becoming a part of the Remind group for the Keyport High School (there are 2 groups created - one for Freshmen and Sophomores and a second for Juniors and Seniors) and Red Bank Regional High School, the transportation department can provide you with up to date information and any last minute changes that may occur. If you do not have the code to join the Remind group specific to your child’s school, please contact the transportation office at [email protected]

WHAT IS PLAN B?

On those occasions when the town is flooded and our buses are unable to access their
regular bus stops, we have arranged for your students to be picked up at one central
location to avoid anyone missing the bus.

Although flooding may not affect all areas, we had to identify a central location the
buses could access from the highway without any damage to their vehicle.

We realize this may be somewhat of an inconvenience; however, this is the one location
in town that does not flood, is easily accessible for the buses, and will serve a large
number of students safely.

You will be notified via REMIND as soon as we hear from the Office of Emergency
Management.

All students being transported to KEYPORT HIGH SCHOOL will be instructed to meet
at the Union Beach soccer field parking lot on Stone Road.  Do not park in the lot as
that is where the buses will be arriving. Union Beach buses will be at the stop between
7:05 am and 7:15 am and will depart no later than 7:15 am for routes KP1 & KP2. The
big bus will return to the stop between 7:25 am and 7:35 am and will depart no later
than 7:35 am for route KP3.

All students being transported to RED BANK REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL will be
instructed to meet at the Union Beach soccer field parking lot on Stone Road.  Do not
park in the lot as that is where the buses will be arriving. Helfrich/Union Beach buses
will be at the stop between 6:30 am and 6:45 am and will depart no later than 6:45 am.

Again, this will only occur in an emergency situation.  If you have questions or concerns,
please feel free to contact the Transportation office at [email protected]
