ELA- C/D (2019/20) Assignments

Please give me full details in your answers to each question, not a sentence or two. You need to demonstrate an understanding of this play. All quizzes must be completed by Monday, May 18th, at 2:00 pm. There will be five points deducted for every day the quiz is late.

Please make sure you complete this quiz by Monday, May 11th, at 2:00 pm. Please use your words when answering these questions and please answer them in full and complete sentence. Make sure you answer all parts of the question. The more details you put in to demonstrate comprehension, the better your grades. Please do not submit the form/quiz until you are completely done. You cannot save it for later.

Please answer the 4 questions using full and complete sentences and details from the play. Your answers should show comprehension of what you have read. The more details you use, the better your grade.

You will be writing a journal entry about your experiences during this pandemic. To begin, think back to when you first found out we were going to be out for two weeks. What was your reaction? What did your family do to prepare for this? Why was there no toilet paper at the supermarkets? I'm sure everyone thought we had a 2 week vacation from school. Then you found out that you would have remote learning. Then you began seeing your work load. Now how did you feel? Now we were all quarantined at home, no school, no parks, no hanging out. How did you feel? Are you getting along with your siblings? Are you making special memories with your family, maybe playing board games together? Perhaps you are enjoying your sit down dinners with your family, helping to prepare dinner, making special desserts together? These are the memories and feelings I want to read about. This journal does not have a due date until we get back to school. At that point, we will make each of your journal writings into a book for you to have at the end of this pandemic.

You are probably asking "How much do we have to write?". I want two entries a week, minimum. A paragraph for each day (7 to 10 sentences per entry) documenting your feelings, and experiences. For example, "We are now into the third week of this quarantine. I'm really getting stir crazy! My sister won't leave me alone! I was in my room meeting with Mrs. Jensen, and she came busting into my room, yelling! I was so embarrassed and I had to chase her out of my room. I'm locking my door from now on!" or; "I love this remote learning. I literally spend one hour on my work and then I get to play video games all day! I get to sleep in and do my work when I want. I can stay in my pajamas all day long. This is the best". What are you feeling?

This is a primary source that you will have to look back on, years from now, or even a month from now. Use figurative language, imagery, what you see, feel, and hear around you. Please also edit your work, check your grammar and usage and spelling. Please click on this assignment and create your document here. If you are in Mrs. Byrne's social studies class, you can just copy and paste your work from her doc into this doc. As a heading, please use "Past Thoughts" for your first two week's entries. After that, you can just use the date: "Tuesday, March 31, 2020", and then begin writing. You can also include photographs to document your change of pajamas too!

This should be an excellent way to keep track of your experience during this time of remote learning. If you have any concerns or problems, you can post questions here, or private message me please. Here is the grammar quiz on simple subjects and simple predicates. To identify the simple subject, ask yourself, "Who/What are we talking about?", and to identify the simple predicate, "What are they (the subject) doing?".

The IXL assignments for this week will be on simple subject and predicates, and compound subject and predicates. These two assignments must be completed by Friday, for a grade. The grade you achieve on each will be combined and averaged to be your homework grade for the week.

Here is the google forms test for the second half of the book. You will have until Monday, 23rd, 11:59 pm, to complete the test. This is an open book, 0 question, multiple choice test. There are no other assignments for this week. Please note, you CANNOT pause the test. It will not let you submit and then go back and continue, so please give yourself the time to complete the test in one sitting.

You will write a 4 stanza poem using alliteration, imagery, and a rhyme scheme. You may choose your own topic: romance, humorous, scary, silly, etc. Be original, be creative!

Write a short essay about a video character you are creating with the personality traits you chose from your worksheet. Give me details about the game and why your character should be in this game. The first paragraph should give me details about your video game. It can be an actual game or one that you create. The second paragraph should be about your video game character. This character must have your personality traits. Describe your character in detail; physically, mentally, emotionally, along with your traits. The last paragraph will be about your character in this game. Are they the hero or the villain? Are their traits helpful in the video game or will they hinder their progress in the game? Why?

You will be writing a 5 paragraph original scary story. You must use imagery and figurative language to add mystery, suspense, and horror to your story. The best story in the class will win the Scary Story contest!

You will be writing a five (5) paragraph essay which explains a natural phenomenon. You will be using literary elements in your writings (figurative language, imagery, personification, etc.). You can also include a life lesson learned from the myth. Think back to the myths we read in class for ideas. You should also include some of the Greek Gods in your story.
